Frigiliana is a beautiful pueblo blanco, set in the exquisitely beautiful Almijara mountain range, not far from the coast of Nerja. The village boasts many beautiful sights and attractions. All around are stunning views, set off charmingly by the warmth and glow of the sunrises and sunsets. The light is indeed very special and in the evening one can take in the view of the sea across the campo and hills down to Nerja whilst eating a fabulous meal in one of the many excellent restaurants with terraces. The town itself is made up of narrow streets with beautiful mosaic roads and pavements along with many interesting and unique artisan shops. The houses along the streets are on different levels and their charm and beauty are set off by a profusion of flowers, pottery and pretty alleyways and doors. The central square has a lovely church which should be visited. There are many festivals throughout the year (more details are at https://www.turismofrigiliana.es/es/fiestas-y-tradiciones.html )and if you are lucky enough to be in Frigiliana when one is happening, do make sure that you go to watch. There is a market each Thursday morning where a variety of local produce and goods can be bought.
With a population of just over 3500, it may be surprising to note that there are over 42 restaurants and bars. All the restaurants and bars are easily reached and within walking distance. In the evenings you will find many people living outdoors, drinking coffee, wine and beer and eating tapas. A well equipped play area is next to the Plaza de las Tres Culturas and is very popular with young children. There are many interesting walking routes and we provide a walking guide for those who may be tempted. Please note though that the steep and rocky terrain means that you should wear sturdy walking shoes and make sure that you have adequate provisions and suncream.
For those who wish to see the coast and spend the day by the sea, Burriana beach in the town of Nerja is a favourite with families. There you will find beach beds for hire, play equipment for children and some lively bars, restaurants and shops. You will find a variety of water sports on offer from a hut on the beach. You can get to the beaches of Nerja on a bus from Frigiliana for 1.15 Euro each way (further information about the area and the timetable to and from Nerja can be viewed here). The bus takes approximately 10 minutes and from the bus station it is a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. Alternatively, a taxi will cost around 12 Euros each way. There is a map and bus timetable in the apartment to help you to get to and find your way around Nerja.
Many people who visit Frigiliana want to spend some time relaxing, and the private pool area which forms part of the apartment block is perfect for taking it easy and soaking up the sun. Never too busy, it is a great place to read, relax and have fun by the pool.
The fascinating history of Frigiliana can be found in one of several books that are in the apartment, which are there for you to enjoy.
